Job Description

Veolia is looking for an Operations Superintendent to join the team managing the Anaerobic Digestions plant in Etobicoke. The plant receives source separated organic waste (SSO) and produces biogas and composting material. The process is based on mechanical pre‑treatment of the SSO followed by biological treatment of organic slurry (AD) and wastewater (Aeration and DAF).

Main Responsibilities
  • Gains deep understanding of all plant processes (Anaerobic digestion, Dewatering, Water treatment, etc.), operations, equipment (centrifuges, compressors, pumps, etc.), technologies to:
  • Lead the operations teams (directly and through the team leaders)
  • Ensure all required operational records are generated accurately and in a timely manner
  • Improve structure and operational expertise of the team
  • Promotes and build a safety culture;
  • Regularly consult drawing and SCADA to understand design and operation of the plant
  • Organizes the operational tasks and allocate them to the relevant teams;
  • Oversees the effective operation of the plant in accordance with the safety and production requirements;
  • Ensures the documents relating to the works (safety documentation, daily report, logbook, etc.) are correctly completed by the operators;
  • Takes control of the distribution of tasks to manage holidays and/or absences;
  • Maintains recognition and discipline for all direct reports;
  • Collaborates with the maintenance manager and maintenance team to ensure all required proactive and corrective maintenance are carried out in a timely manner;
  • Collaborates with the technical director to ensure the operational planning and decisions are based on science and aligned with the analysis and observations of the plant behavior;
  • Ensures that the required Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and other operational documents are created and updated as required;
  • Lead operational meetings (ex. pre‑shift meetings) and discussions, establish good communication between team members;
  • Reports daily to the plant manager to advise and discuss operational performance;
  • Promotes continuous improvement in the operations team for example by:
  • Sharing ideas and opinions on how to improve operations and team performance;
  • Completing frequent rounds of the facility;
  • Making notes of all deficiencies and Safety and concerns to assign work orders accordingly;
  • Develops and maintain operators’ training and competencies on the plant operations;
  • Prepares different reports for the attention of the Plant Manager, Client, Technical department and others;
  • Is capable of trouble shooting the plant when not operating at the expected level;
  • Is responsible for leading the Management of Change (MoC) processes;
  • Participate in the investigation of work‑related accidents;
  • Works as part of a team, adapting to the needs of operation and adjusting the time dedicated to the plant.
