Course description:

This general interest course explores the composition, structure and origin of the Earth and the tectonic, chemical and biological processes that have evolved over the last 4.5 billion years. It explains how planet "works" as a complex system. It provides a fundamental basis for understanding many of the environmental challenges faced by human societies especially natural hazards, water shortages, and climate change, and the importance of natural resources to our economy.

Specific duties will occur between May 1, 2026 and August 31, 2026.

Salary:

Starting September 1, 2025 the following rates of pay apply for half courses (F or S), inclusive of vacation pay: $9,820.70 for a Sessional Lecturer I; $10,510.04 for a Sessional Lecturer I-Long Term; $10,510.4 for a Sessional Lecturer II; $10,760.23 for an Sessional Lecturer II-Long Term; $10,760.23 Sessional Lecturer III; and $11,030.34 for a Sessional Lecturer III-Long Term.

Minimum qualifications:

Ph.D. in Environmental Geoscience, have proven University lecture experience with high enrollment course(s) and be familiar with computer technology and its application to course management (i.e. Quercus). Past teaching experience is a more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position.

Description of duties:

Preparation of on-line modules, creation of exams, term tests and assignments, marking, marks management, supervision of TA(s), conducting office hours.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
