The Program Instructor will be responsible for the implementation of Downsview Park’s education and community programs, under the direction of the Education Manager.

Job Description

Instruct curriculum-based education programs for elementary, middle, and secondary students with an environmental focus.

Lead community groups through outdoor education activities.

Ensure that programs are delivered smoothly by helping to prepare all required supplies and resources and maintaining clean and well-organized programming spaces.

Assist the Education Manager with the following tasks: developing programs and teaching tools, creating, and maintaining educational displays and learning centers.

Keep the Education Manager informed of all aspects of programs and feedback.

Support the Education manager in building and maintaining partnerships with the park community, teachers, educational institutions, governmental agencies, and community groups.

Take direction from and provide advice to the Education manager, as it relates to the efficient implementation of the programs.

Assist the Education Manager with the planning, development, and facilitation of programming for the community.

Qualifications

Post-secondary diploma or degree in progress or completed, preferably in education, environmental studies, science or related field.

At least one year experience teaching or delivering programs, preferably outdoors.

Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers or Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators is an asset.

First Aid and CPR certification is required by start date.

Bilingualism (English/French) is preferred.

Working Conditions

Able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines, conflicting demands, frequent interruptions, and heavy work loads.

Ability to work flexible hours, as needed

Work environment includes in-office, in-classroom and outdoors; must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions for prolonged periods of time

Must be able to work in a physical capacity requiring extended periods of standing, moderate lifting, pushing, pulling, bending and reaching.

Recruitment Range: $23.15/hour
