Description:

Advancing technology increases our ability to intervene in the course of natural events involving human health and well being. Questions arise as whether we ought to and who will benefit or be harmed. This course considers the far-reaching bioethical implications of emerging bio-technology. Topics to be explored include but are not limited to ethical considerations in emerging reproductive technologies, genetic alteration/genetic enhancement.

Use of life support technologies, synthetic life, life extension.

Salary (0.5 FCE):

Sessional Lecturer 1: $9,820.70.
Sessional Lecturer 1(Long-Term): $10,510.04.
Sessional Lecturer 2: $10,510.04.
Sessional Lecturer 2 (Long-Term): $10,760.28.
Sessional Lecturer 3: $10,760.28.
Sessional Lecturer 3 (Long-Term): $11,030.36.
All inclusive of vacation pay.

Minimum qualifications
:
Candidates should have a completed Ph.D. (or equivalent) with current scholarly contributions to the filed of bioethics and experience in undergraduate teaching.

Description of duties
:

  • Preparation of course syllabus and course marking scheme;
  • Teaching weekly lectures and tutorials;
  • Marking assignments and exams;
  • Providing office hours for academic counselling of students;
  • Setting and marking assignments/exams
  • Providing course administration in accordance with University regulations as described in the Faculty of Arts & Science Academic Handbook for Instructors.
