Introduction to Sociology of Genocide
Course description: This lecture course will lead students through an in-depth consideration of why genocides occur.
Estimated TA support: 180 hours (subject to enrolment)
Sessional dates of appointment: May 1 - June 30, 2026
Salary: Minimum stipend $9,820.70 for a Half course (inclusive of vacation pay) to be paid in equal installments
Note:
If rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
- All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content.
- Development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades.
- Holding regular office hours; supervising TAs assigned to the course.
- Ordering all necessary readings.
- PhD in Sociology or equivalent as demonstrated by refereed/published research.
- Strong academic record and previous experience teaching a similar course.
- Evidence of teaching excellence in the subject covered in the course.

This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.

Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
