The Opportunity:

We are seeking an English and Individual & Societies (History and/or Geography) Teacher to work in our Middle School on a full-time, permanent basis In a community where social-emotional learning and diversity, equity and inclusion are key priorities, the successful candidate demonstrates empathy, creativity, strong communication skills and the ability to build a caring rapport with students and colleagues. The successful candidate will join both the English Department and the Individuals and Societies Department, and as a key member of the middle school faculty, will have dotted line reporting into the Head, Middle School.

This posting is for an existing vacancy with a projected start date of August, 2026.

Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Using a lens of social-emotional learning, create a class environment that inspires and supports learning and personal growth;

  • Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a solid foundation for further education in accordance with each students ability;

  • Fosters a love of language and literature in young people;

  • Establish positive relationships with parents, faculty and other staff members;

  • Ensure the written, taught and assessed curriculum is in line with the IB and Ministry of Education curriculum ensuring differentiation;

  • Develop culturally relevant, inclusive and responsive English and History and/or Geography curriculums for diverse learners;

  • Support students to develop interdisciplinary understanding through interdisciplinary units of inquiry, collaborating with faculty across disciplines;

  • Develop course outlines, unit plans, lesson plans ensuring integration of all aspects of the IB Middle Years Program curricula, with a focus on inquiry and interdisciplinary based learning;

  • Update all necessary records accurately as required by the Ministry, IBO and school guidelines;

  • Communicate information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress including formally through report cards and parent-teacher meetings;

  • Keep up-to-date and incorporate best practices in subject area and approaches to teaching and learning through professional reading, participating in workshops and other professional development opportunities;

  • Participate actively in faculty and department/Middle School meetings and meet regularly with all course teams to plan, review and update the written curriculum;

  • Assume responsibility for and participate in co-curricular activities and supervision duties;

  • Participate as an Advisor, mentoring students and meeting them regularly.

  • Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with a specialization in English and History and/or Geography, and a valid Ontario College of Teachers certification (or equivalent) with I/S qualifications in English and History and/or Geography;

  • Minimum three years’ teaching experience preferred;

  • Experience in and knowledge of IB is a strong asset;

  • Passionate about tailoring teaching to the unique needs of Middle School students;

  • Strong curriculum development skills and assessment practices that incorporate strategies relevant to the age and stage assessment practices;

  • A relational educator who incorporates Social-Emotional Learning and emotional coaching strategies in their practice;

  • Experience and/or commitment to incorporating equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles into curriculum development and teaching practice;
