Advanced Sport Psychology

Course description: This course will examine the most effective means by which individual and team athletic performance can be enhanced. The focus will be on integrating scientific research based on cognitive and social psychology with real life case studies. Mental preparation strategies and performance techniques will be taught so that recreational and elite athletes can achieve optimal performance. Topics to be covered throughout the term will include: anxiety, arousal and stress;

psychological skills training, motivation, confidence, focus, goal-setting, imagery, team dynamics, burnout and coach-athlete relationships.

Estimated TA support: 2 TA @ 70 hrs = 140 hrs

Estimated course enrolment: 90

Class schedule:

W 9:30-12:30

Plus 3 hours ASYNC Online Modules

Sessional dates of appointment: May 1, 2026 - June 30, 2026

Appointment percentage: 0.5 FCE

Salary: 

Sessional Lecturer I - $9,820.70

Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term - $10,510.04

Sessional Lecturer II - $10,510.04

Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term - $10,760.28

Sessional Lecturer III - $10,760.28

Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term - $11,030.35

Minimum Qualifications: PhD preferred in a relevant area, or combination of relevant expertise and experience. Teaching experience in college or university setting is an asset.

Description of duties: All duties associated with the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TAs assigned to the course, if applicable. This course will be taught online.
