What is the Opportunity?
Reporting to the Manager, Student Services at the Oscar Peterson School of Music, the Camp Counsellor provides leadership and delivers excellent music programming to ensure the camp experience at the Oscar Peterson School of Music meets the expectations of participant and the high program values of the department.
This role supports instructors, works with volunteers, and facilitates music programming and activities to provide a positive summer camp experience for all participants.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Camp Preparation
Attending camp staff training and meetingsPlanning active programming for breaks during the campers' scheduleAssisting with the planning of special music camp activitiesVolunteers
Mentoring 1-2 volunteers per camps.Providing leadership opportunities for volunteers within specific area of programming.Providing Camp Coordinators with regular feedback on the performance of volunteers.Camp Operations
Providing a fun, safe, and meaningful program for children ages 4 - 17 yearsPlanning, developing, leading, and evaluating a variety of programs and activitiesProviding camp information to participants and parents/guardiansAssisting with sign-in and sign-out proceduresAssisting with the delivery of special camp activities (e.g., concerts, etc.)Taking initiative to support participants' educational and social experiences throughout the dayPerforming other duties as required.
Job Requirements What We're Looking For
Experience in leading programming for youth, preferably in an arts, recreation, or camp settingExperience providing childcare for children as young as 4 years, preferably in a camp settingExcellent verbal communication skillsApproachable demeanor with the ability to command authorityStrong interpersonal and conflict resolution skillsAbility to work in a collaborative team environmentInterest in music, education, and youth programmingPost-secondary studies, or planned studies, in music, music education, teaching, social work, or recreation would support success in this roleExperience volunteering or in volunteer coordination is an assetBasic understanding of music education is an assetHourly Rate
$18.00 per hourAdditional Information
This is a fixed-term contract from March 11 - 20, 2026. Required working days are:
Wednesday March 11 (evening) Monday March 16 through Friday March 20 (core working hours 8:30 a.m.
