Course description: This course aims to provide students with practical research and academic skills by:
1) Practicing fundamental research questioning, hypothesis generation, and research goals to define an individual research approach,
2) Exploring project management and research planning to increase individual productivity,
3) Comprehending the philosophy of research and ethical considerations pertaining to biomedical engineering in order to produce high quality research, and
4) Disseminating individual work in written and oral formats to translate individual knowledge and to share multidisciplinary research in creative ways.

Number of Positions: Up to (3) positions.

Schedule: Assignments come in on February 11, 2026

Dates of appointment: February 1, 2026 – April 31, 2026

Hours: 20

Salary: CUPE minimum salary rates are:
Writing Instructor 1 - $55.46/hr plus 4% vacation pay;
Writing Instructor 1 Long Term - $59.62/hr plus 4% vacation pay;
Writing Instructor 2 - $59.62/hr plus 6% vacation pay;
Writing Instructor 2 Long Term - $61.05/hr plus 6% vacation pay;
Writing Instructor 2 (priority) - $61.38/hr plus 6% vacation pay and Writing Instructor 2 (priority) Long Term- $62.82/hr plus 6% vacation pay. Should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications: include at least a Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline (such as, but not limited to, Communication, English, Engineering, Education, Technology Studies) with strong written and oral communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching communication and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications: include a PhD in an appropriate discipline, familiarity with graduate-level engineering communication practices, and familiarity with NSERC and/or CHIR grant writing.

Description of duties
  • Hours will focus on providing feedback, during a meeting and in writing, on a 1-2 page written proposal; proposals arrive on Feb 11th, and will need to be commented on by March 7th. Meetings will be scheduled with students by instructors.
  • Must have the ability to adapt to different communication instruction activities and move online
