    1194H - Cyberliteracy and Adult Education

    Course description:

    Drawing from several disciplinary perspectives, including education, sociology, social psychology and communication studies, this course provides an opportunity to interrogate the relationship of the Internet to adult education. The main objectives of this course are: to engage participants in an examination of the influence of information and communication technology, including social media, on key adult education praxis areas such as community development, literacy and nonprofit organizations.

    The course provides participants with a critical framework for analyzing Internet mediated environments; and encourages students to explore Internet resources that may be used in conjunction with traditional community development and adult education practice.

    The delivery of this course is Asynchronous.

    Estimated course enrolment: 25 students

    Sessional Lecturer I: $9,182.42
    Sessional Lecturer I Long Term: $9,641.55
    Sessional Lecturer II: $9,826.96
    Sessional Lecturer II Long Term: $10,025.84
    Sessional Lecturer III: $10,060.93
    Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $10,262.15

    Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

    Minimum qualifications:

    Holds a PhD in adult education or a related field. Prior graduate teaching in the areas of the course topic and an established record of mastery in the topic area is required, with demonstrated community and workplace experience in the field of equity.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    An established and successful track record of online or hybrid format teaching is preferred.

    Description of duties:

    Prepare, organize, and lead this graduate half course; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; and evaluate student work and provide students with feedback in a timely manner.
