Overview
The Department of Medical Imaging at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) and the Department of Medical Imaging, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto are recruiting a fellowship-trained Vascular and Interventional Radiologist to join a team of four similarly trained physicians. The successful candidate will have an academic position description of Clinician-Investigator and must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor at the University of Toronto.
The anticipated start date is July 1, 2026. Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is a fully affiliated teaching hospital of the University of Toronto and a national leader in complex care.
- Vascular and Interventional Radiology (VIR) procedural practice across broad modalities with emphasis on trauma and oncologic interventions.
- Perform embolization of pelvic and solid organ injuries; regional cancer therapies including thermal ablation, chemo embolization (DEBIRI, DEBDOX, cTACE), bland embolization, and radio embolization.
- Additional procedures: complex biliary and GI interventions, genitourinary procedures, venous and arterial thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy, dialysis access interventions, and women’s and fertility-related procedures (uterine fibroid embolization, gonadal vein embolization), vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, and venous access.
- Non-neuro CTA and MRA for diagnostics and post-procedural follow-up.
- Collaborate across relevant programs and support Sunnybrook’s high-volume trauma and oncology services; contribute to clinical, translational, and outcomes-based research as part of an image-guided therapy priority.
- Hybrid clinical and research appointment with protected research time; demonstrate strong commitment to research with scholarly productivity. Advanced research training (ideally PhD or equivalent) preferred but a robust and sustained research portfolio will be considered.
- MD or equivalent;
Board-certified or Board-eligible in Diagnostic Imaging from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or an equivalent international qualification. - Minimum of two years of fellowship training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
- Eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
- A strong research profile is desirable; advanced training (PhD or equivalent) strongly preferred.
Academic rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Compensation is based on a fee-for-service model. The estimated income range is $350,000 - $500,000 per annum for full-time equivalent, with potential for increased salary based on experience and academic credentials.
Facilities and EquipmentThe department is equipped with three angiography suites (two Philips Allura FD20 with XperCT/Xper Guide, one Philips Allura FD20/10 biplane upgraded with Clarity). A fourth biplane angiography suite is expected to be operational in 2027. A hybrid operating room with a single-plane Philips Azurion system supports combined surgical and interventional procedures, primarily for polytrauma patients requiring pelvic embolization.
