Assistant Photo​/Visuals Editor

We are looking for a dynamic and self-motivated individual who wants to help maintain our sterling photojournalism product while also helping us push forward with other visual offerings.

• The successful applicant will help co-ordinate daily photo coverage in consultation with the Director of News Photography and Visuals, making sure we’re on top of the right stories and effectively using our resources to cover both breaking stories and longer-term assignments and features.
• Oversee and be responsible for an efficient, constant triage of incoming assignments and news developments so that our resources are targeted at the most important news of the day.
• Assign photo staff to coverage of events, features and enterprise stories with clear expectations on what is expected in the finished product.
• Help co-ordinate daily digital coverage, including video and social video in consultation with the Director of News Photography and Visuals.
• Help develop visual story ideas with editorial staff across the country.
• Help co-ordinate all elements of our visual content coverage including photos, video and multimedia needs.
• Liaise with editorial staff across the country on coverage planning, short- and long-term.
• Liaise with key clients on daily coverage plans while also planning ahead on coverage of major events.
• Edit and create visual content each day.
• Compile weekly work schedules for staff.
• Enforce strict deadlines and encourage a workplace culture rooted in the priorities of a real-time newsroom, including accuracy, speed and exceptional visual content.

• Have strong decision-making skills and excellent news judgment.
• Work with staff and clients in a constructive and collaborative way.
• Be open to change and be unafraid of trying new ways of storytelling that meet the always evolving multimedia demands of our clients.
• Encourage staff to experiment with visual storytelling, while also helping reporter-editors develop stronger multimedia skills.
• Demonstrate an eagerness to take the reins whenever major news breaks across the country.
• Have meticulous attention to detail and be able to operate under tight deadline pressure.
• Have good organizational skills, particularly when it comes to looking ahead at events that need extra planning to achieve the right goals for our coverage.
• Have good knowledge of CP Style.
• Have the ability to handle a number of competing demands on deadline.
• Have professional experience with different platforms, including photos, video and multimedia.
