The Opportunity:Postmedia is seeking an energetic, determined journalist who is passionate about politics and provincial government to fill a full-time role as Queen’s Park reporter. The successful candidate will be expected to break news, deliver enterprise journalism and offer readers context around the events unfolding within and around the Ontario government.
Excellent reporting and writing skills are required, along with a willingness to engage with multiple stakeholders and projects in a competitive, high‑paced environment. Working in an evolving landscape, the successful candidate will embrace emerging technologies to deliver content to the audience.
What you’ll do:- Work independently within a collaborative news environment to deliver accurate, impactful journalism from Queen’s Park, in Toronto, to trusted news outlets in major cities and communities across Ontario.
- Develop content to engage audiences across several platforms, from print to digital, and from video to emerging social media.
- Cultivate sources in and around Queen's Park to deliver important information to readers about the policy decisions that impact their lives, from healthcare to education, from employment to taxation and beyond.
- Develop distinctive content that separates our coverage from the competition by breaking news, investing in long‑form stories, embracing data and harnessing creative thought all while following the company’s rigorous journalistic principles.
- Balance long‑term projects with daily responsibilities.
- You have meaningful newsroom experience, with a proven track record working under deadlines to produce written content at the highest professional standards.
- You are comfortable working with a variety of stakeholders in high‑pressure situations, balancing daily news files with long‑term projects.
- You are open to flexible workdays, understanding the nature of the Queen’s Park news cycle does not always adhere to traditional weekday business hours.
- You are passionate about journalism and obsessive about accuracy.
- You have a valid driver’s license.
