The Globe and Mail is seeking a full-time editor to join the Opinion team.

The opinion team assigns and edits thought-provoking columns and essays on a wide range of topics that help Canadians make sense of the world around them. Opinion editors assign and help shape breaking commentary pieces, staff columns, and long-form features that consistently rank among the most read by Globe subscribers and are major drivers of new audiences to The Globe.

We are looking for a skilled editor who is as comfortable handling seasoned columnists as first-time contributors. The ideal editor will have a breadth of knowledge about current events and culture, a talent for matching writers best suited to the subject matter, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a high-performing team of editors.

• Generate ideas for coverage and the writers who are best to tackle them
• Edit opinion stories on a variety of topics and in a range of formats
• Assist with the production of the daily op-ed page and Saturday Opinion section

• At least five years of experience working in an editing role
• Prior experience assigning and editing opinion journalism
• Strong news judgment with a knack for identifying issues that will resonate with Globe readers
• A deep network of possible contributors both in Canada and abroad
• An ability to write crisp and catchy headlines for digital and print

This position will be based in our Toronto office, and you will be required to come into the office a minimum of two days a week.

SALARY: This position is classified as a Content Editor in Group C of the Editorial Collective Agreement.
