Description:

Marketplace, Canada’s award‑winning investigative consumer program, is looking for a journalist who is an exceptional leader to help supervise our team so we can continue to own the biggest consumer news stories in the world, making sense of them for audiences everywhere they want to watch them. Reporting to the Executive Producer of Marketplace, the Senior Producer will assign, develop and vet content from the world’s top journalists and field producers.

Role:  You are known for both your creative storytelling skills, your journalistic rigour and your ability to keep calm under tight deadlines. You will help develop pitches and research, plan ahead so the team can tackle investigations with gravitas but also pivot to being responsive with quick turnaround stories that make news. You will be responsible for managing the distribution of our strong investigative content across various platforms, and liaising with key players across CBC News to ensure our stories are reaching audiences where they are consuming them.

You’re not just a pro at trying different video storytelling techniques. You can review a paper edit, screen a rough cut, and understand how to work with the story team to make it better, with speed and confidence. People love working with you because you’re calm under intense pressure. You have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor, motivate, inspire and support a programming team to make great content.

You have an open mind, a great work ethic and a sense of humour. You’re also a champion at giving and receiving feedback. People leave feeling inspired after talking to you. You live and promote the values of an inclusive and respectful work culture and aren’t afraid to have difficult conversations because you want to make the workplace better. You love to innovate and evolve video storytelling to reach audiences who may not consume our programming in traditional ways.

You are passionate about finding original or underreported stories about the biggest consumer issues facing Canadians and the world. And you are committed to ensuring these stories reach and resonate with as many people as possible on on‑demand, live, social and streaming platforms. You have excellent journalistic judgement and a comprehensive knowledge of the CBC’s journalistic standards and practices and media law as it applies to investigative stories.
