Position: Entertainment Reporter-Editor, Full-time

The Canadian Press is looking for an entertainment reporter to join the Arts-Life bureau.

We are seeking an experienced journalist who is passionate about pop culture, music, film, television and can handle a range of stories —from colourful profiles and issue-based features to tight news briefs and live awards coverage with running leads.

This is a full-time position based in Toronto.

Responsibilities
  • Write, edit and gather multimedia content for CP’s various services (print, digital, broadcast and video)
  • Cover breaking news such as awards shows and announcements with speed and rock‑solid accuracy
  • Monitor news outlets, social media and a network of contacts to stay on top of what’s happening in the Canadian arts scene
  • Maintain a variety of sources in the arts community, PR and entertainment industry
  • Pitch daily news briefs, features and video opportunities
  • Write profiles and issue‑oriented features that can grab and hold readers’ attention
  • Manage time well in order to balance feature writing with breaking news stories
Skills and Experience Required
  • At least five years experience in a newsroom
  • Experience reporting in different platforms including video, broadcast, print and online
  • Strong news judgment and commitment to accuracy and fairness
  • Must be a self‑starter who can work both independently and within a team
  • Ability to both report and edit independently
  • Ability to work under tight deadline pressures
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with CP Stylebook and Caps and Spelling
  • A track record of featuring a diversity of voices in reporting
  • Some shift work and occasional travel required

This position reports to the Arts-Life bureau chief at The Canadian Press.

  • Proposer quotidiennement des brèves d'actualité, des reportages et des idées de vidéo
  • Rédiger des profils et des articles thématiques susceptibles d’attirer et de retenir l’attention des lecteurs.
