The Team

With a focus on responsiveness and empathy, the Vice‑Provost, Students oversees a portfolio of over 370 employees across the Office of the Registrar, Athletics & Recreation, Student Affairs, Student Well‑being, and Student Communications. The Office of the Vice‑Provost, Students (OVPS) actively supports the university’s academic plan and strategic priority of enabling greater student engagement and success through exceptional experiences.

The Opportunity

As a key member of the Student Communications team within OVPS, the Web Content Specialist is responsible for writing, editing, migrating, and proofreading content for OVPS websites in collaboration with stakeholders across the university.

Key Responsibilities
  • Edits, writes, migrates, and proofs copy for websites within the content management system (CMS).
  • Collaborates with a diverse group of stakeholders to execute content plans aligned with business goals, target audiences, and established website tone and voice. Includes creating, gathering, and editing content from multiple internal contributors while ensuring adherence to organisational brand and style guidelines, as well as industry and regulatory standards.
  • Analyzes data and provides actionable recommendations to ensure content meets audience needs.
  • Participates in cataloguing, editing, and migration of all web content, and performs quality‑assurance evaluations on migrated content within the CMS.
  • Supports the OVPS Student Communications team by ensuring all content is relevant, high‑quality, factually accurate, up‑to‑date, consistent, concise, and accessible to all external users, while aligning with strategic goals and objectives.
  • Assists with managing client expectations to maintain consistency and quality across creative deliverables.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a post‑secondary degree program in a related area (e.g., Journalism or Communications) or 4 years of specialised training is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with communication principles, practices, priorities, and objectives related to digital communications and the complexities of writing, editing, and managing web content in a busy environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HTML, SEO, and web accessibility requirements.
  • Under the direction of the Manager and senior unit staff, develops compelling visual web designs while adhering to the functionality and features of the web Content Management System.
  • Strong understanding of preparing images for the web, including optimizing file size, file types, and colour correction.
  • Experience writing accessible content for the web and migrating content between systems.
  • Advanced computer skills are required.
  • Experience with Adobe AEM would be considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to provide advice on web content in order to develop content from concept to delivery.
  • Demonstrated skills in digital communications, writing, and editing.
  • Strong analytical, judgement, and research skills.
  • Data Studio and Google Analytics skills would be considered an asset.
  • Organisation, time management, problem‑solving skills.
  • Equivalent experience or a combination of equivalent experience and education may be accepted in place of education.
