Location: North York, ON - Hybrid (Initial training will be on-site)
Contract Duration: 2 years with a possibility of extension with an option to extend the contract by 2 years in 1 year increments
Working Hours: M-F 35 hours per week
Position Summary:
We are seeking experienced Construction Estimators to provide comprehensive and professional estimating services in support of projects. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the Estimators will collaborate closely with the Commercial Management team, Engineering staff, and external Consultants. All billable hours must be tied directly to assigned tasks and deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare a wide range of cost estimates, including but not limited to:
- Order-of-magnitude, conceptual, feasibility, value engineering, and definitive estimates
- Engineer’s estimates and control budgets
- Estimates for major change orders and claims analysis
- Develop cost estimates for various infrastructure and systems related to rapid transit construction, repair, and renovation, including:
- Buildings, structures, utilities
- Mechanical and electrical systems
- Operating system elements
- Review contractor/sub-trade/supplier quotes and invoices for changes issued or proposed
- Support the Commercial Management team in analyzing and finalizing cost changes during construction
- Perform quantity take-offs and detailed cost breakdowns across all trade disciplines
- Identify discrepancies in contract specifications and drawings and highlight potential issues
- Prepare cost databases, price schedules, and basis-of-estimate documentation
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of estimates and related work
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Hiring Manager
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Education & Training:
- Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and hands-on estimating experience may be considered
Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong proficiency in all aspects of construction estimating across multiple trades
- Demonstrated ability to perform accurate quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications
- Solid understanding of construction contracts, practices, and cost control methodologies
- Proficiency with estimating software and relevant computer applications
- Familiarity with the Construction Act and related regulations
- Knowledge of union agreements, trade contracts, and procurement practices
- Understanding of technical specifications and construction equipment/materials
