Our client is a leading contractor specializing in nuclear and heavy industrial construction projects. They have a strong reputation for deliveringplex projects safely and efficiently. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join their team.Your new role
Under the general supervision of the Director of Proposals & Estimating and/or Estimating Managers, you will prepare and deliverpliant andprehensive construction cost estimates, methodologies, execution plans, project risks, assumptions, and clarifications for various scopes relating to nuclear and industrial construction projects. You will develop detailedpilations and summaries of direct construction hours, engage with multiple subcontractors, material suppliers, and rentalpanies, and present your results logically and thoroughly to management for approval.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Strong mechanical background in Boilermaking, Ironworking, or Millwrighting within heavy industrial or nuclear construction markets.
Work effectively in a team environment to support other Estimators
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Develop strategies and scope breakdown structures to support estimate development
Support the Estimating Manager throughout the proposal/estimate process
Interpret project drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
Conceptualize construction plans/methodologies and translate them into realistic estimate summaries
Create sketches, drawings, and specifications to support estimating
Prepare accurate take-offs and detailed estimates followingpany policies
Utilize construction estimating software for detailed estimatepilation
Prepare estimates for labour hours, material costs, tools & equipment, scheduling durations, andpile bid packages
Analyze sub-trade quotations and liaise with subcontractors for clarification
Attend estimate kick-off and approval meetings with management
Determine estimated construction durations for forecasting and scheduling
Attend walkdowns/site visits to understand project scope
Maintain historical database references for pricing and vendor information
Superior time management skills to meet deadlines
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager
Site visits and some travel may be required
What you'll need to succeed
Minimum 5 years of large capital project estimating experience within industrial or nuclear construction
Minimum 5 years of direct field construction experience
Construction Engineering Technologist or Trade Certification or Gold Seal Certificate (Estimating) or equivalent experience
Proficiency in estimating software and MS Office
Excellentmunication and problem-solving skills
