Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research and analyze the application and compliance of relevant laws and regulations.
  • Draft and review documents with precision and clarity.
  • Serve as contact for business partners and outside counsel.
  • Manage projects involving complex and ambiguous legal issues and ensure timely completion.
  • Perform complex and highly technical assignments requiring confidentiality, discretion and sound judgement.
  • Monitor and stay current on changes in insurance and mutual fund distribution laws and regulations in Canada and the US. and proactively inform the team of relevant updates and implications.
  • Qualifications

  • Law clerk diploma or equivalent education
  • Five years of experience as a law clerk
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Strong legal research, analysis and drafting skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Proactive self-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiative to create efficiencies and improve processes within the team
  • Able to build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to US and Canadian insurance and securities regulations
  • Bilingual in French
  • Associate membership with the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario or US NALA certification
  • Working Conditions

  • This is a hybrid position.
  • Compensation

    The salary for this position generally ranges between $85,000- $100,000 annually. Please note that the salary range is a good faith estimate for this position and actual starting pay is determined by several factors including qualifications, experience, geography, work location designation (in-office, hybrid, remote) and operational needs. Salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.
