Camp Communications & Outreach Assistant

Scope and summary of primary responsibilities

The Camp Communications and Operations Assistant is vital in helping ensure CNIB Lake Joe runs smoothly and effectively. Working with the Manger, Community Engagement and the General Manager, this role will assist with the development and implementation of communications and outreach strategies, support camp logistics, and assist with various administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a passion for creating an exceptional camp experience for all our stakeholders.

Essential functions

  • Assists in generating timely, relevant and engaging content for promotional purposes, including social media updates, etc.
  • Supports creative projects for Lake Joe by designing visually engaging materials using Canva or Adobe and contributing innovative ideas.
  • Helps organize and coordinate the representation of CNIB Lake Joe at public awareness events.
  • Helps organize and oversee camp tours and scheduled visits.
  • Update and manage all digital displays across camp including TV photo slideshows, digital menus, event announcements, and guest information.
  • Supports the philanthropy team in the execution of CNIB Lake Joe’s annual signature fundraising event. Provides administrative support by scheduling and coordinating committee meetings, preparing agendas, and recording accurate meeting minutes.
  • Supports the development and execution of 65thanniversary activities.
  • Participates in / contributes to CNIB Lake Joe in-person programming as required.
  • Plays lead role in onsite volunteer support.
  • Provides administrative and clerical support as directed by the Manager, Community Engagement and/or General Manager.

    Qualifications

    Education and Certifications

  • Enrolled in a recognized PR/Journalism/Digital Media Certificate Program, or equivalent job-related experience.
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office and Office 365.
  • Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience with social media platforms.
  • Experience planning or supporting events.
  • Experience with design software an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities preferably individuals impacted by sight loss or a demonstrated interest and willingness to learn. Lived experience with vision loss is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a recreational, camp, or nonprofit environment an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write clearly and professionally for various audiences. Experience creating content for newsletters, blogs, social media platforms.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills, with the ability to confidently represent the organization in person or virtually. Experienced in engaging with external stakeholders, including vendors, and addressing donor inquiries effectively.
  • Strong photography/videography/video-editing skills.
  • Sensitivity to inclusive, accessible practices (e.g., content formats, communication styles).
  • Experience working with, or willingness to learn about, our target populations.
  • Administrative, communications, and marketing experience an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.
  • Work environment

  • Must reside at CNIB Lake Joe during operational season and be willing to share accommodations with other staff member.
  • This position may require the ability to work occasional overtime/flex time.
  • This position may have to deal with difficult situations or people.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in a dynamic and busy environment, with frequent interruption.
  • Minimum travel may be required.

    Salary Range:$17.60 to $18.68 hourly
