Description
We are seeking a Manager to work collaboratively with a highly talented team to oversee the various accounting functions within our client within the Retail industry. This individual will be a part of the Record to Report Tower in Global Business Services [“GBS”] and has full responsibility over the client’s accounting processes. The role will involve oversight of various accounting functions and the coordination of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
The role oversees Lease accounting, Fixed Assets and Revenue Recognition accounting. This position provides the opportunity to gain broad experience in accounting operations, financial reporting and corporate accounting. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic working environment and has a passion for undertaking process improvement projects in a wide spectrum of areas (e.g. IT, Technical Accounting, SOX).
This role requires to be in office 5 days a week in downtown Toronto.
Roles and Responsibilities- Supervise month end GL close and execute internal control processes
- Review and ensuring timely and accurate completion of balance sheet reconciliations
- Act as the key resource bringing together technical accounting, system and internal processes to meet the needs of the business
- Prepare analyses and develop processes for the team to record and monitor complex accounting transactions
- Collaborate on several important projects with cross-functional teams across the Company
- Act as a key contact for external and internal auditors (e.g. SOX and Accounting).
- Review key deliverables provided to the Global Accounting and SEC Reporting teams (e.g. PBCs, Business reporting).
- Training to look over leases. Table & income leases
- Testing and preparing reports (Standard process - understanding standards in and out)
- Managing the Offshore team
- Revenue recognition (ASC 606)
- Fixed Assets - Managing or having portfolio recognition (What can be capitalized and what cannot)
- Great understanding of accounting to be a back up for the offshore team whenever they need to be supported
- Creative financial set ups - understanding the differences between tangibles
Skills & Qualifications Nice to Have's

- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), preferably with Big 4 accounting firm experience and increasing responsibilities in roles with managing month-end closes for large organizations
- Excellent organizational, project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Ability to learn processes and procedures quickly
- Ability to govern process change implementation programs with a focus on developing automated processing
- Demonstrated ability to establish collaborative relationships with cross functional business partners and all levels
- Ability to work well in a dynamic and fast-moving environment
- Attention to detail and the ability to prepare high quality outputs
- Experience with fixed asset, deferred revenue and lease accounting
- Results oriented with an ability to be agile in execution
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products:
Power Query & Power
BI are an asset - Self-starter and an ability to work proactively and independently
- Knowledge of Hyperion/One Stream is considered an asset
- Experience managing a BPO team is considered an asset
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Toronto, ON.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $57.00 - $62.00/hr.
