About the RoleWe are currently seeking a Senior Accountant with specialization in taxation and cross-border accounting (USA).
Responsibilities- Prepare and review cross-border personal tax filings, including U.S. (Forms 1040, 1041) and Canadian (T1) returns for individuals with dual tax obligations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable tax laws.
- Prepare and support the review of corporate and partnership tax filings, including U.S. Forms 1120 and 1065 and related Canadian T2 returns, for Canadian-based entities with U.S. operations.
- Assist in providing client advisory support on cross-border tax matters, including entity structuring, income sourcing, residency determination, and basic treaty interpretation, escalating complex issues to management as appropriate.
- Coordinate and manage assigned tax engagements by organizing documentation, tracking deliverables, and ensuring filings are completed in accordance with internal timelines and statutory deadlines.
- Liaise with clients to gather information, clarify tax positions, and address routine inquiries related to cross-border tax filings.
- Identify potential tax risks or planning opportunities during preparation and review, and communicate findings to Managers or Partners.
- Support compliance with U.S. and Canadian tax authority requirements, including elections, disclosures, and information reporting, under the guidance of senior leadership.
- Contribute to process improvements, technical research, and knowledge sharing related to cross-border tax compliance within the team.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- CPA designation (Canadian or U.S.), or active progress toward completion.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience managing tax and accounting responsibilities for Canadian and U.S. clients, with hands‑on experience in cross‑border personal and/or corporate tax filings.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. and Canadian tax compliance, including cross‑border tax returns.
- Experience with accounting and tax software such as Quick Books, Lacerte Tax, Profile, Caseware, and Case View is considered an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, with strong overall computer literacy.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
- Proactive, organized, and capable of exercising sound professional judgment in a deadline‑driven setting.
- Experience with accounting and tax software such as Quick Books, Lacerte Tax, Profile, Caseware, and Case View is considered an asset.
