The City of Topeka is seeking a general facility and equipment maintenance mechanic to perform semi-skilled building, equipment and grounds construction, repair, and maintenance tasks on a variety of city-owned assets and facilities.

This position works Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM 3:30 PM.

What youll do:

* Inspect buildings, machinery and equipment to identify the need for repair and maintenance activities.

* Carpentry work to repair buildings, facilities and equipment.

* Plumbing repair and maintenance duties such as replacement of exposed pipe, sinks and tanks, and unclogging grains.

* Repair and maintenance to electrical equipment.

The ideal candidate possesses any combination of the following traits:

* A basic knowledge of mechanics and/or plumbing hand tools.

* Is a highly motivated self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, changing work environment.

* Has knowledge of standard safety practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

* High School Diploma or equivalent with one year of experience performing semi-skilled building, mechanical, construction or grounds maintenance work is required.

* Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas drivers license and city-insurable driving record. Please review the Insurability Guidelines

* Supervisory experience is desirable.

Entry rate of pay: $16.62 $ 17.40 per hour, depending on qualifications
