Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our IT - EDI team and has a new opportunity for an EDI Support Specialist. This position serves as the primary point of contact for internal and external customers needing support with electronic data interchange. The employee assists Trading Partners, payers, providers, software vendors, and clearinghouses with diagnosing and resolving issues involving electronic data files, batch and real-time transactions, and online submission tools.
The role includes supporting software and applications provided by ASK/BCBSKS, including installation, setup, ongoing troubleshooting, and maintenance. Responsibilities also include coordinating electronic testing, explaining file formats and implementation guides, identifying connectivity issues, working with EDI System Support and eBusiness teams, and ensuring accurate documentation and professional follow‑up. The employee maintains high accuracy standards for Trading Partner records while supporting department processes, internal testing, and customer education.
This position is eligible to work hybrid or onsite in accordance with our Telecommuting Policy. Applicants must reside in Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as a condition of employment.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay aligned with the individual’s skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Provide timely and accurate support for EDI inquiries from internal and external customers.
- Support Trading Partners with submission, receipt, testing, and troubleshooting of electronic batch and real-time transactions.
- Support and maintain software and applications provided by ASK/BCBSKS, including installation, setup, troubleshooting, and error resolution.
- Assist customers with use of online applications and web-based tools used to submit electronic data and files.
- Work with software vendors and clearinghouses to explain record specifications, implementation guides, and connectivity requirements.
- Identify, investigate, and elevate EDI connectivity or system issues in collaboration with EDI System Support and eBusiness teams.
- Ensure all EDI support activities meet departmental performance expectations and applicable compliance standards.
- Maintain accurate and complete Trading Partner records with a minimum 99% accuracy rate.
- Document communications, testing outcomes, and resolutions promptly and thoroughly, with professional follow‑up to customers.
- Participate in internal testing, process improvements, and other department projects or provider-facing events as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least two years of experience in claims processing, membership services, customer service, or medical insurance operations within a provider setting required.
- Strong computer skills and ability to work effectively with company systems and applications.
- Ability to understand and interpret complex record layouts, implementation guides, and technical specifications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to customers in a professional and clear manner.
- Knowledge of health plan claim systems, membership systems, provider billing systems, or electronic health record systems.
- Knowledge of ANSI X12 formats and clinical data standards (preferred).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to spend extended periods working on the phone and using a computer.
- Experience with ANSI X12 formats and implementation guides (preferred).
