Base pay range

The IT Audio Visual Technician provides technical support for the Kansas Judicial Center in Topeka, maintaining and upgrading AV systems in courtroom, conference, and training environments. The role supports desktop troubleshooting for Zoom, Microsoft Teams and other conferencing tools, and works closely with IT staff, vendors, and court personnel to ensure reliable performance and modernization of AV environments.
Key Responsibilities- Operate, monitor, and maintain AV systems in conference rooms, training rooms, courtrooms, and other media spaces.
- Manage and update digital signage, display systems, and room scheduling panels.
- Perform preventive maintenance, system checks, and equipment updates.
- Respond promptly to technical issues, providing hands‑on, real‑time support.
- Collaborate with vendors for repairs, warranty claims, and new system design or upgrades.
- Assist with planning, installation, and testing of AV solutions including Extron, Crestron, or similar control systems.
- Support and troubleshoot web conferencing platforms (Zoom Government, Microsoft Teams, etc.) and their integration with AV hardware.
- Provide on‑site coverage for major events, including Supreme Court and Court of Appeals proceedings.
- Maintain an event calendar for AV support needs.
- Document system layouts, troubleshooting procedures, and maintenance schedules.
- Provide user support and training for court staff, including cheat sheets and documentation.
- Maintain inventory of AV hardware, cameras, cables, and peripheral equipment.
- Work independently and under time‑sensitive conditions, especially during live proceedings.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Associate degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field. Education requirement may be substituted with relevant work experience.
- Minimum of 3 years installing, upgrading, and troubleshooting AV and IT hardware/software in conference, training, or courtroom settings.
- Experience supporting IT and AV projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and new equipment deployments.
- Strong analytical skills for diagnosing technical issues and communicating solutions to both technical and non‑technical users.
- Hands‑on experience with web conferencing platforms (Zoom, Teams, Web Ex) and their integration with AV hardware.
- Familiarity with Extron, Crestron, or other AV control platforms.
- Basic IT support skills related to desktop setup, connectivity, and conferencing applications.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Experience developing user documentation, quick guides, or training materials for AV systems.
- Ability to work independently under time‑sensitive conditions.
- CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) or equivalent AV certification.
- Certification in Crestron or Extron.
- Experience in judicial, government, or public‑sector environments.
- Knowledge of digital signage platforms and content management.
