Overview
The Lead Medical Support Assistant (Lead MSA) is responsible for the training and coordination of Advanced MSA assignments and workflow within an interdisciplinary unit. The role includes daily workload assessments, providing staffing coverage, and determining training needs of MSAs. This is an indirect patient care position and primarily involves appointment scheduling and preauthorizing payment of health care. Extensive knowledge of medical terminology and exceptional customer service are critical.
Responsibilities- Initiate and carry out a variety of administrative and technical duties in support of community care coordination and consult/referral management.
- Provide administrative coordination of patient care, appointments, and logistical factors associated with patient care, both inpatient and outpatient, coordinating care between the VA Medical Center and outside facilities (VA and non-VA).
- Utilize broad working knowledge of all medical center programs and services and understand the priorities and complexities of outside care for specialty services.
- Perform clerical duties including typing, filing, data entry, scheduling appointments and tests, transferring medical records to and from the Medical Center and other facilities, ordering office supplies and necessary forms, scheduling patients' appointments and/or consults, tracking appointment status in the community, data tracking, and making regular follow-up calls.
- Research a database of community health care services to assist Veterans with locating care in the community; assist with processing emergent and non-emergent consults for health care and services in the community at VA expense.
Monday - Friday. 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
Compensation and Benefits- Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases. A higher step rate may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA. - Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time off per year (13-26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays).

After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. - Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, eligible full-time employees may receive a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs (up to a monthly maximum). - Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% contributions by VA. - Insurance:
Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care; many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement. - Telework:
