Overview
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for enforcing safety standards, conducting site inspections, facilitating training, and ensuring regulatory compliance to protect on-site personnel and the public.
This role is classified as safety sensitive.
Responsibilities- Conduct inspections, testing, and evaluations of workplace environments, equipment, and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety standards.
- Assess the effectiveness of workplace safety and health programs and recommend improvements as needed.
- Lead incident and accident investigations using root cause analysis techniques to determine contributing factors and prevent recurrence.
- Develop and implement corrective actions, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution of safety concerns.
- Maintain accurate records and compile data into reports and statistical analyses for management review.
- Operate, maintain, inspect, calibrate, and oversee the installation and certification of safety equipment.
- Manage the collection, packaging, testing, storage, transportation, and proper disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste.
- Assist with response and mitigation efforts during hazardous materials incidents, as necessary.
- Conduct routine safety walkthroughs and review findings with field supervisors to ensure timely corrective actions.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for field supervisors on health, safety, and environmental matters.
- Deliver ongoing safety training to promote a strong culture of workplace safety.
- Manage the ordering of safety materials and supplies to support ongoing operations.
- Foster positive engagement with field personnel to promote and uphold Sherwood's Safety-First Culture.
- Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations.
- OSHA 30/OSHA
500, First Aid, CPR, and TECS certifications preferred
- 2–3 years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) required
- Experience in heavy civil construction
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements
- Functions essential to this position include but are not limited to standing, sitting, stooping, bending, walking and lifting heavy objects (50 pounds) during the course of the workday
- Required travel between multiple construction sites
