- The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus, a part of a rich legacy of compassionate care since 1909, now offers 378 licensed beds, a history of innovation, and strong community support.
- Enter, maintain, and report all medical history, medical coding, and claim files using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Support patient visits by performing chart prep and scrub, greeting patients, escorting patients to exam rooms, taking vital signs, and relaying medical information to support treatment.
- Perform medical tests and/or procedures that fit within the medical assistant scope of practice and have received documented satisfactory training by a provider.
- Collect, preserve, and properly label laboratory specimens, bodily fluid, and blood samples.
- Explain medical procedures to patients and provide instructions about medication, special diets, under the direction of the provider.
- Sterilize and prepare medical instruments. Ensure patient exam rooms are disinfected, orderly, and ready for incoming patients. Provide patients with privacy, comfort, safety, and hygiene.
- Assist in maintaining inventory and stocking supplies, instruments, and equipment for all exam rooms.
- Maintain appropriate paperwork for inventory control and review orders received for completeness.
- Address and request referrals and other insurance authorizations, and pass along patient information for prescription, x-ray, or lab requisitions to necessary parties.
- Draw and conduct injection of vaccines, medications, intradermal injections, and other function associated with injection/vaccine administration.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Graduate from an accredited medical assistant/medical technologist school/program.
- Current national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- Prior experience in a clinic or hospital setting supporting patient care.
- BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
- Associate’s degree (preferred).
