Position Overview
- Serve as an administrative resource preparing and reviewing all proposals submitted by university researchers and faculty (principal investigators) for consideration of funding from external sponsors.
- Work under extreme pressure and inflexible deadlines; collaborate closely with investigators, agency officials and university personnel.
- Perform all pre-award project administration responsibilities from the pre-award stage through the notice of award.
Responsibilities
- Develop an accurate proposal budget in coordination with the Principal Investigator, including the appropriate facilities and administration (F&A) rate.
- Prepare all required agency application forms, consolidate all proposal components, verify correct format and submit approved packages via electronic systems to meet agency-imposed deadlines.
- Analyze agency requests for proposal (RFP) for eligibility, instructions, budgeting requirements and cost sharing; obtain additional university approvals as necessary.
- Resolve time-sensitive problems and interact with investigators, agency officials and university staff to maintain high responsiveness and stellar customer service.
- Revise and establish approved project budgets for new awards; ensure compliance with all research compliance regulations at award initiation.
- Implement the university routing process and verify compliance with requirements for human subjects, animals, biohazards, recombinant DNA, radioactive substances and export control regulations.
- Ensure inclusion and review/approve content of commitment letters regarding financial, space and collaboration needs for successful implementation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of related professional-level work experience; or GED/HS Diploma and four (4) or more years of related work experience.
- One (1) year of experience interpreting information from contracts, award documents or similar items.
- Strong written communication skills demonstrated by application materials.
- Training and/or education or previous work experience with computer applications to create word processing documents, spreadsheets and databases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business/Accounting or related field.
- Work experience in sponsored projects administration.
- Experience working with the Uniform Guidance.
- Experience with university business policies and procedures or similar systems.
- Experience requiring time-sensitivity and detail-orientation.
- Experience in a university research environment.
