Position Overview
The Wingspan:
Center for Learning and Writing Support is a unit in the University Academic Support Centers (UASC) that provides programming to all KU students in the form of Supplemental Instruction (SI), Tutoring Services, Peer Academic Coaching, Writing Consulting, and Workshops. The Wingspan Tutoring and Coaching Graduate Assistant (GA) primarily assists the Tutoring and Coaching Student Program Coordinator and other professional staff in the Wingspan:
Center for Learning and Writing Support with the coordination of Wingspan’s peer academic coaching program, including the recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and educating of a cohort of 12-15 coaches. Due to the Tutoring and Coaching Student Program Coordinator having some purview over tutoring, the Wingspan Tutoring and Coaching GA will also assist with activities related to peer tutoring.
The Wingspan’s tutoring and writing consulting programs achieved its first ever Level 1 and Level 2 College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) in October 2025. This means that tutors and writing consultants can earn their personal certifications through undergoing intensive training and accruing a certain number of tutoring experience hours. This also means that KU students will benefit from meeting with trained, certified tutors and writing consultants.
Limited evening and occasional weekend work may be required, but never in conflict with class schedule.
