The North Tooele Fire District (NTFD) is seeking motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team as Seasonal Wildland Firefighters. This position plays a critical role in wildfire prevention, mitigation, and suppression efforts throughout our district and surrounding areas.
Wildland Firefighters perform a wide variety of duties including line construction, firing operations, engine operations, and mop-up during wildland fire incidents. In addition, firefighters participate in fuels reduction projects, prescribed burning, and maintenance of fire tools, vehicles, and facilities. This position demands physical fitness, adaptability, teamwork, and a commitment to safety and public service. Wildland Firefighters also play a vital role in promoting fire-safe practices and supporting NTFD’s mission through community outreach and education.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid State of Utah Driver’s License
- Completion of NIMS, IC-100, IC-200, and IS-700
- Basic Life Support CPR certification
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Current Wildland Firefighter 1 certification
Additional Requirements
- Potential candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment medical examination in accordance with NFPA 1582 standards, as well as pass a standard BCI Background check.
BCI Criminal History Report
- It is the applicant's responsibility to provide to the NTFD a BCI Criminal History Report dated within the last 90 days prior to the review of the application.

A concealed weapons permit does not meet this requirement. This background check is obtained through the Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) at (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). . Please submit a copy of your Criminal History report with your application. Any application submitted without a BCI Criminal History Report will NOT be considered.
The estimated dates of this position will be May 5 – October 31, 2025, not to exceed 6 months.
- Must be available for state and national wildfire deployments up to 21 days
- Candidates should anticipate to travel approximately 50% of the time
- Deployment readiness is required throughout the season
When not on deployment, seasonal wildland firefighters will be responsible for NTFD wildfire suppression, prevention and mitigation activities.
This is a seasonal position scheduled for 40 hours per week, with the potential for overtime based on operational needs. Work schedules may vary depending on the demands of the District. This is a non-benefited, at-will position and is not part of the District's merit system. The starting wage is $20.00 per hour. There are two positions available, and the recruitment will remain open until filled.
Current NTFD employees are eligible to apply but will need to terminate their current position upon acceptance.
Physical Fitness Expectation
Wildland Firefighters are expected to maintain a high level of physical fitness consistent with the standards of the Work Capacity Test (WCT), commonly referred to as the “Pack Test,” at the Arduous level.
Community Role
Wildland Firefighters are the face of NTFD’s Wildland Prevention and Mitigation Programs. They serve as key ambassadors for fire safety and resilience within our communities. Whether through active engagement during community events or by working directly with residents on defensible space and fire-safe practices, these individuals are essential to building strong, fire-adapted communities in the North Tooele region.
