Teaching Personnel are working closely with a specialist education provision based in the CF40 area to recruit a full‑time Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This provision offers a highly personalised and therapeutic approach to education for children and young people who have struggled to access mainstream settings. The environment is calm, structured and supportive, with a strong focus on emotional regulation, engagement and positive relationships.
The RoleThis is a varied and rewarding role that includes a mixture of classroom‑based learning and community‑based activities. You will work closely with teaching staff and support teams to help pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally.
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis
- Assisting with tailored learning activities and interventions
- Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour management strategies
- Participating in off‑site and community‑based learning activities
- Building positive, consistent relationships with pupils
- Helping to create a safe, nurturing and structured learning environment
Pupils within this provision may present with challenging behaviour, emotional dysregulation, anxiety, trauma or attachment needs. Previous experience working with SEMH, behaviour support, youth work, care or similar settings is essential. You will need to be calm under pressure, resilient, patient and able to respond positively to challenging situations while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.
Requirements- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential due to location and community activities)
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Teaching Assistant qualification, CACHE, Health & Social Care, Youth Work or similar)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
- Willingness to complete full safeguarding and compliance checks
