Position: School Science Technician Job Vacancy

School Science Technician – Tonbridge

Full-Time | Temporary – Friday 13th March 2026 – ongoing

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Technician to join our well-established Science Department at a school in the Tonbridge area on a full-time, temporary basis.

Essential Requirements
  • Recent experience working as a Science/Lab Technician within a school or college.
  • Current Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Availability to start ASAP.

The ideal candidate will have a Science qualification to at least A-level (or equivalent). Previous technician or laboratory experience is desirable. You will have the technical competence required for preparing and ordering materials as well as maintaining machines and equipment. Previous experience working with children, strong organisational skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.

Purpose

of the Position

This role supports teachers in delivering the curriculum during lessons. You will assist in the maintenance and preparation of classrooms, apparatus, and materials for both staff and students, ensuring safe, effective, and efficient teaching and learning.

Duties & Responsibilities

Under the overall control of the Head of Department (HoD), the Science Technician will:

  • Coordinate the use of practical resources and facilities.
  • Provide assistance and advice to meet the practical needs of the science curriculum, liaising with teaching and support staff inside and outside the department.
Health & Safety
  • Actively contribute to the assessment, monitoring, and review of health & safety procedures and resources.
  • Keep up to date with current procedures and practices through continuing professional development.
  • Provide technical advice and support on health & safety issues to teaching and trainee technical staff.
  • Ensure the safe treatment and disposal of used materials, including hazardous substances, and respond promptly to potential hazards.
  • Maintain healthy and safe storage and accessibility of equipment and materials.
Materials & Equipment Management
  • Support the team by ensuring the availability of suitable materials and equipment.
  • Assist in compiling orders, liaising with suppliers, and coordinating with the finance department.
  • Source, cost, and suggest economic alternatives to maintain stock levels.
  • Keep up-to-date stock records.
