Working with the Patient care team, the radiation therapist is responsible for providing care to patients undergoing radiation therapy treatments. This may include treatment simulation, treatment delivery, and all aspects of patient care. The age of our patients receiving radiation treatments can range from under 2 to over 100 years. The radiation therapist communicates with and utilizes resource persons and programs available to advance knowledge and support the patient care team.

The role includes reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments and medical errors.

Required:

• Graduate of AMA accredited program in radiation therapy technology
• ARRT Certification
• NJ license
• BLS through the American Heart Association

Preferred:

• 1-3 years previous experience

• Day Shift
• Full-Time

• Provide care to patients undergoing radiation therapy treatment
• Check charts of all patients on treatment at regular intervals to eliminate dosage errors, arithmetical errors or errors of intention
• Enforce all rules and regulations relating to radiation, electrical or fire hazards
• Check beam directional devices for accuracy. Check output of a standard field size when necessary
• Make random inspections of treatment room to ensure high standard of technical performance and good patient care
• Keep all dosage data up to date and remove obsolete data from books in use in the treatment area
• Keep daily statistics of all patients and procedures performed in the department and report them to the Lead Radiation Oncology Technologist
• Perform brachy therapy procedures if assigned by the Lead Radiation Oncology Technologist
• Perform tumor localization procedures
• Provide patient education that is consistent with the patient s learning needs regarding care in Radiation Oncology
• Provide a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service
• Perform other duties as required by the department
