New Horizons in Autism Inc. (NHIA) is a non-profit organization established in 1980 to support individuals with autism and their families. Based in New Jersey, NHIA offers a range of services, including 16 Residential Group Homes, 6 Day Programs, and an In-Home Support Program, serving over 130 individuals across Bergen, Monmouth, and Ocean Counties. The organization provides residential care, pre-vocational training, day habilitation, and behavior therapy to enhance the quality of life for those with autism.

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Direct Support Professional located in Toms River and Little Egg Harbor. The role involves assisting individuals with autism by supporting daily living activities, promoting independence, and implementing individualized care plans. Responsibilities include providing emotional encouragement, fostering social connections, and facilitating engagement in day programs, pre-vocational or leisure activities. The role also includes monitoring behavior, ensuring health and safety, and collaborating with a team to meet the unique needs of each individual.
Qualifications- Background in Human Services and experience with individuals with Intellectual Disabilities
- Strong Interpersonal Skills and effective Communication abilities
- Experience or willingness to provide Training and promote skill development
- Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to improving the lives of individuals with autism
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional qualifications in a related field are beneficial
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet physical requirements of the job, including assisting with mobility
