Position Description

P4

FIP (Precinct 4 Forward Internship Program) is a 9‑week paid summer internship for students passionate about serving others. Participants work alongside a team that embodies "heart, hustle, and higher standards" while advancing opportunity and justice for Harris County residents. The program exposes interns to Harris County career opportunities and allows them to apply classroom learning to hands‑on projects. Students from all schools and historically under‑represented groups—including Black, Hispanic, Native American, students with disabilities, and veterans—are encouraged to apply.

Interns build a supportive community, work with a mentor, form relationships with peers, and engage with the Senior Leadership Team.

Position Summary

The Special Events Intern supports the planning, promotion, and execution of special events for Precinct
4. Under the supervision of the Special Events Assistant Manager and Director, the intern assists with event logistics, communications, outreach, and occasional direction of volunteers or work crews. This hands‑on, fast‑paced role offers experience in events, public engagement, and entry‑level design and marketing tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with planning, executing, and evaluating events and signature events.
  • Assist with vendor onboarding and communications.
  • Support load‑in, load‑out, set‑up, and break‑down of events.
  • Organize and maintain event equipment and materials.
  • Assist volunteers or work crews assigned to events or projects.
  • Attend and support events hosted by external community entities.
  • Work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Contribute to visual communication materials such as flyers, simple graphics, social posts, and basic layouts (training provided as needed).
  • Organize, submit, and track promotional materials delivered to schools, daycares, and community partners.
  • Help gather content (photos, quotes, event details) to support marketing and storytelling efforts.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure messaging and branding are consistent across materials.
  • Work with community partners, vendors, and stakeholders to support shared promotional and event goals.
  • Interact directly with staff, interns, volunteers, and other departments to support event operations and outreach.
  • Conduct event‑related research, including community demographics, promotional opportunities, and creative ideas.
  • Organize and maintain the branded swag stockroom.
  • Assist in the organization and maintenance of Special Events assets and equipment.
Education and Additional Requirements
  • Students working toward an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management, multitasking, and data entry skills.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Well‑developed verbal, listening, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines and balance numerous projects in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong sense of urgency and impeccable organizational skills to meet deadlines and requirements for multiple projects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team or autonomously with accountability.
  • Thoughtful use of judgment in managing responsibilities.
  • Innovative, proactive, and creative in creating solutions and completing assignments.
