Overview
Be part of a large, interagency project removing invasive grass carp from the Great Lakes. We provide excellent training including workshops designed to help you become more competitive in your career and when applying to grad school. You will have the chance to interact with several partner management agencies.

Responsibilities- The people in these positions will assist with sampling trips on Lake Erie and its tributaries in support of invasive Grass Carp research and removal.
- They will participate in collecting and processing biological samples on a boat and in the laboratory.
- Work will be done on boats in Lake Erie tributaries using electrofishing, gill nets, hoop nets, and bongo nets to capture adult grass carp and their eggs and larvae.
- The remaining time will be spent maintaining gear and processing samples in the lab.
- This is a seasonal, grant funded position for a total of 1000 hours (6 months of full-time work).
- No benefits. Hourly wages are $18/hour. Housing is not provided; however, we work with our techs to help them find the best available housing.
- Work will begin on May 4th but start dates can be flexible.
- BS in Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Fisheries, or related field required or be currently enrolled.
- Prefer knowledge of Great Lakes ecology, fish identification, limnology, water chemistry, or related expertise.
- Must be able to work long hours outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must have valid drivers license
- Prefer experience in the operation of standard fisheries and limnological gear and/or experience in processing and organization of fisheries data
- Prefer experience with boats and/or trailering
- The person(s) in this position must work well as a team member, sometimes under uncomfortable field conditions (e.g. cold, heat, rain) and long hours.
- Work schedules may change with little notice due to weather and river conditions.
