The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing in overseeing daily clinical operations of the skilled nursing facility. The ADON ensures delivery of high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and operational efficiency while promoting a positive and collaborative work environment.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Leadership & Operations- Assist the DON in managing and directing all nursing services.
- Oversee day-to-day clinical operations to ensure quality resident care.
- Monitor clinical systems, infection control, and risk management programs.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
- Conduct rounds to monitor resident condition and staff performance.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Assist with survey preparation and participate in survey process.
- Audit documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Support implementation of plans of correction when needed.
- Supervise nursing staff including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations.
- Provide coaching, education, and corrective action as necessary.
- Promote staff engagement and retention initiatives.
- Address resident and family concerns promptly and professionally.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team (IDT) to ensure comprehensive care planning.
- Support admissions process and clinical review of new referrals.
- Assist with scheduling oversight and staffing management.
- Participate in budget planning and cost control related to nursing services.
- Maintain accurate records and reporting systems.
- Minimum 2–3 years of nursing experience in skilled nursing or long-term care.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of CMS regulations and survey process.
- Experience with EMR systems.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Experience with Medicare/Medicaid guidelines.
- Background in infection control or quality assurance.
- Prior experience as Unit Manager, MDS Coordinator, or Nurse Supervisor.
