This role reports to our National Aviation Vertical and involves 100% travel across project sites in the U.S.
Role Summary
The General Superintendent will develop and execute project plans, oversee complex projects, manage teams, plan construction sequencing, and ensure project goals are met, aligning with JE Dunn’s strategy, vision, and values.
- Autonomy & Decision-Making: Operate independently, adapt plans and priorities, make decisions, guide subordinate managers, and consult with supervisors as needed.
- Career Path: Pathway to Director of Field Operations.
Core Responsibilities
Superintendent Family - Core
- Lead safety culture, promote injury-free environment, investigate incidents, and retrain staff.
- Manage subcontractors, organize workflow, oversee staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and programs like Safety, Quality, EEO.
- Develop work plans, coordinate project site activities, lead meetings, and participate in project meetings.
- Create and adjust project schedules, monitor budgets, communicate with stakeholders, and maintain documentation.
- Evaluate progress, manage materials and equipment, support procurement, and supervise quality and closeout activities.
- Participate in project pursuit, staffing, and negotiate project changes with owners and architects.
- Recruit top talent, promote diversity and inclusion, and understand contractual obligations.
Additional Responsibilities - General Superintendent
- Manage large, complex projects from planning to completion, oversee multiple projects, and lead strategic initiatives.
- Contribute to training content, deliver leadership messages, and represent the company externally.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Perform work accurately and timely, communicate effectively, deliver presentations, and utilize MS Office and project management software proficiently.
- Apply construction management fundamentals, build relationships, and understand project processes, trades, self-perform labor, budgets, and scheduling software.
- Apply Lean principles, possess layout, crane flagging, rigging, and productivity knowledge, and manage budgets and profitability.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred; relevant experience considered in lieu.
- 12+ years construction experience, 10+ years supervision, and experience with Lean principles preferred.
Other Requirements
- Valid driver’s license required.
