Patient Registration Specialist

Location:

University of Toledo Medical Center – Health Science Campus, Toledo, OH. Shift: 1st Shift. Full-time (approximately 40 hours per week). Start time: 7:00 am – 7:00 pm. Float, rotate, on‑call, and travel are possible.

Job Description

The Patient Registration Specialist performs all outpatient and inpatient registration functions, including insurance verification and cash collections, to ensure excellent customer satisfaction. The role requires maintaining a courteous and caring impression for patients and visitors, communicating effectively to maximize patient flow, and ensuring that financial policies and requirements are met while providing timely and accurate patient information to all other providers and users of patient data.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education/experience/licensing:
    High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Recent experience (within the last 2 years) in a hospital or physician office providing primary duty as a Registration Specialist or Check‑in/Check‑out Clerk (entering demographic/insurance information).
  • Must have working knowledge to operate a computer in a window‑based environment and use various software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other essential applications.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and apply written or oral instructions to complete tasks.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional, service‑oriented relationships with patients, families, physicians, nurses, co‑workers, supervisors, and the general public, and to handle confrontation and stressful situations while maintaining excellence in customer service.
  • Must be able to analyze data, calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, and perform basic arithmetic using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; applicants may be tested.
Physical Requirements
  • Visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20, including color vision when applicable.
  • Ability to hear with or without aids.
  • Ability to orally communicate.
  • Good manual dexterity.
  • Ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer/lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, and kneel frequently.
  • Optional:
    Ability to perform CPR if required for the position.
  • Occasional carrying of items weighing up to 30 pounds.
