Trauma Registrar – Contract – Healthcare – Toledo, OH

Base pay range: $20.00/hr – $25.00/hr

Responsibilities
  • Maintenance of Trauma Registry
  • Identify trauma patients for entry into the Trauma Registry
  • Locate patients with ED admissions, direct admissions, transfers, discharges
  • Abstract data from charts that is required for the Trauma registry including ICD-10 diagnosis, procedures, ISS/AIS, and other information required by NTDB/TQIP/NORTR
  • Perform data searches and report as requested in the Trauma Registry
  • Compile statistical information, analyze data, and conduct audits for research and other projects
  • Develop and generate numerous periodic reports to monitor quality indicators, summarize demographics of trauma patient population, and project future trends
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information
  • Assist with preparing reports for Trauma Committee
  • Calculate ISS
  • Identify PI and/or issues on a case-by-case review
  • Data entry and verification (quality control)
  • Assist with trauma clerical functions as required
  • Produce typed copy from rough written copy or oral instructions involving correspondence, reports and other material of technical or confidential nature
  • Maintain filing and search files, including organizational skills with good follow-through
  • Willing to expand knowledge base and further develop skills to keep current with latest technology in data processing and other aspects of care
  • Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, addressing patient safety, performance improvement, and quality of care issues at all times
  • Recognize safety issues in the department and handle incidents per institutional or departmental policies and procedures; ensure timely and appropriate resolution
  • Participate in department education and training focused on patient safety to create a safe work environment
  • Examples of safety reporting: report equipment dysfunction promptly, ensure an alternate process is in place, and take action to reduce adverse outcomes
  • Examples of exposure handling: collaborate to limit blood exposure and maintain a safe work environment, with no safety concerns reported for the year
  • Other sample topics: observed patient transportation without rails up, wiping up spills, addressing rug holes
Required Skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Candidate must be experienced and able to jump right in – there will be no training for this position
  • 3-5 years in Trauma Registry
  • 2 years experience in ICD-10-CM coding and AIS coding
  • Computer skilled: type ≥20 WPM, familiar with Word and Excel
Preferred Skills
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification, certified coding specialist certification (CCS), or Associate's degree in Allied Health field with an emphasis in Anatomy & Physiology
  • CSTR
