Summary
Responsible for transport of Mobile Intensive Care patients in the MICU vehicle and for assisting with patient care in a prompt and efficient manner to all patients transported via Mobile Intensive Care. Responsible for assessing, planning, organizing, documenting, and evaluating patient care in conjunction with the medical transport team. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unit.
Assists in communications center; assesses inventory and reorders.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Drives the MICU vehicle as needed to respond to runs in a safe and appropriate manner.Assists with the urgent/emergent needs of the patient prior to transport in the MICU. Assists in assessing patient condition, patient related data, and establishes priorities and plan of care. Communicates appropriate information to the MICU RN and paramedic.The MICU EMT will assist with patient care prior to transport.Acts as a professional representative of Mercy Health to the community.Cooperates with all ancillary and support services.Assists in maintaining the vehicle, equipment and supplies as defined by departmental policy and procedures.Attends internal and external educational meetings, keeps current in knowledge, skills, and clinical competencies through professional journals, professional organizations, etc.Accompanies neonatal team on neonatal transports by air or ground. Assists the neonatal team in loading and preparing isolette in vehicle as needed. Acts as resource to team with operational issues related to vehicle and/or equipment.Assists in the communications center as needed or when call volume dictates. Must be able to dispatch MICU or aircraft on notifications to requesting and receiving facilities as needed.Independently assess inventory of stock medical supplies and plans accordingly in reordering of supplies and equipment.Ensures that equipment is retrieved from the hospital, returned to Life Flight, cleaned and labeled in preparation for return to requesting EMS agencies and/or hospitals.Collaborates with flight nurse on any other day-to-day duties that arise and need attention.Completes annual flight crew member training.Adheres to the standards and policies of the Corporate Responsibility Program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and reporting to designated Manager (or employer hotline) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or policies.Knowledge,
Skills and AbilitiesRequired
Must be a graduate of an accredited EMT program.Must have a valid Ohio Drivers license for a minimum of 2 years.Must have an excellent driving record.Must complete bi-annual safe driving training classes.Must possess a current license as an EMT from the State of Ohio.Work requires prior EMS field experience.Basic Cardiac Life Support certification required. BCLS instructor preferred.Basic Trauma Life Support certification or equivalent preferred.Must possess sufficient interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and hospital personnel. Must have demonstrated leadership skills to participate in professional and community education programs, and to effectively maintain good public relations for sponsoring institutions.Work requires one to six months orientation to acquire necessary familiarity with department and unit policies and procedures.Working Conditions
- Works in a variable patient care environments, as well as an ambulance and aircraft.
- Work requires carrying and lifting equipment of variable weight, and assisting in safe stretcher/backboard transfer of the patient. Must be physically able to move about and work effectively in the confines of the ambulance.
