Vocational Specialist

Overview

Harbor is seeking a Vocational Specialist to work at the Ohio Means Jobs location in Lucas County. This position provides psychosocial and vocational assessment of clients (14 years of age and older) and coordinates linkage between employers and clients. Position is full-time, 40 hours per week.

• Provide psychosocial and vocational assessment of clients (14 years of age and older).
• Coordinate linkage between employers and clients.
• Develops and updates an Individualized Service Plan (ISP) for each client reflecting needs in seven areas:
  Health Care, Housing, Financial, Social Support, Leisure/Recreational, Vocational/Educational, and Crisis Prevention.
• Ensure quality and completeness of electronic records; maintain documentation including Activity/Progress Notes and Incident Report forms.
• Provide documentation in the format acceptable to Harbor and meet unit expectations for billable services.
• Assess client readiness for employment and assist with treatment goals; identify interests, skills, and aptitudes to guide vocational choices.
• Assist clients in understanding employment effects on entitlements/financial assistance (SSI/SSD, Medicaid, Medicare, Section 8, TANF, Food Stamps).
• Evaluate worksite/job match, and complete worksite job analysis as needed.
• Collaborate with client, family, and/or significant others to develop and adjust the ISP.
• Provide ongoing employment support, coaching, and mentoring to maintain employment and promote resiliency.
• Deliver education on benefits counseling, job seeking skills, and self-management of symptoms to clients and families.
• Conduct community outreach for recruitment and engagement; connect clients with necessary support services.
• Coordinate evaluations and assessments with internal and external providers; link clients to vocational resources (OOD, ODJFS, BWC, etc.).

• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work or a closely related behavioral/mental field from an accredited college or university, plus 1 year vocational rehabilitation experience; or an Associate’s degree plus 3 years vocational rehabilitation experience; or 5 years’ experience providing vocational rehabilitation services (e.g., job development, job coaching) to BVR/ODJFS funding sources if the degree requirement is not met.
• Preference given to candidates licensed in Ohio (LSW or LPC) and to those with experience in vocational rehabilitation with the noted client population.
• Proficiency in computer use, including Microsoft Word.
• CPR/First Aid and NCI/CPI Certifications required within 90 days of employment.
• Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and proof of personal auto insurance policy to be insurable with Harbor’s vehicle insurance carrier.
