OverviewThe Government & Public Sector practice of Ernst & Young LLP provides a full range of consulting and audit services to State, Local and Education (SLED) clients, helping them implement new ideas to achieve mission outcomes. We deliver real change and measurable results through high‑performing teams, quality work and creative, bold ideas that drive innovation.
Key Responsibilities- Actively pursue business development activities, both within and outside EY, to identify new opportunities.
- Develop proposal responses and manage the engagement proposal process.
- Train and coach staff and execute engagement deliverables concurrently.
- Collaborate with colleagues across multiple service lines to create cross‑functional solutions.
- Build relationships with clients and identify opportunities for them to benefit from EY’s broader service lines.
- Travel regularly to meet key clients, often in their respective fields of expertise.
- Develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with advisory client personnel; assess client satisfaction and proactively maintain contact.
- Direct field work, update supervisors on engagement status, and manage assurance staff performance.
- Demonstrate thorough understanding of complex governmental accounting (GASB), budgetary reporting, and auditing concepts, and apply them to client situations.
- Effectively delegate audit tasks and provide guidance to assurance staff.
- Provide performance feedback, training, and reviews for assurance staff.
- Contribute ideas to the assurance team and respond to other team members’ views.
- Foster an efficient, innovative, team‑oriented work environment.
- Use technology to continually learn, share knowledge, and enhance service delivery.
- Actively seek and encourage assurance team members to contribute ideas and identify opportunities to apply EY’s services.
- U.S. CPA license in the state of work.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business, with 10+ years of post‑college experience in financial audit and advisory for SLED clients.
- In‑depth understanding of U.S. Governmental GAAP, GASB standards, the Financial and Single Audit (Subpart F of the OMB Uniform Guidance), and OMB guidance.
- Comprehensive knowledge of preparing and auditing the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), Annual Financial Statements, and Single Audit Report for SLED entities.
- Proficiency in modified‑accrual reporting, grants management, and budgetary reporting.
- Hands‑on experience with business development in the SLED space, including deal governance and proposal submission (lead multiple proposals in the past year).
- Experience working with large regional or national Not‑for‑Profit (NFP) clients is a plus.
- Excellent project management, communication, negotiation, and collaborative management skills.
- Proven record of excellence in managing, mentoring, and improving high‑performing teams.
- Dedication to teamwork, leadership, and integrity.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance or higher.
- Flexibility to travel up to approximately 30% for federal projects and up to 80% for state, local, and education practice projects.
- Certified Governmental Financial Manager (CGFM) and/or Certified Departmental Financial Manager (CDFM).

- Base salary range for this role in the U.S.: $146,700 to $335,100; $176,000 to $380,800 for selected metro areas.
