Job Description

The Associate Director will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing strategies to enhance the academic skills of secondary students from disadvantaged backgrounds in the Toledo community (i.e., assist in developing and preparing the academic and summer components; developing and producing a quarterly program newsletters; developing and preparing annual performance reports; recruiting Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math Science students; coordinating pre- and post-testing of UB/UBMS participants and setting up Math and Science events, programs, workshops and tours;

coordinating the annual National Trio Week event/activit(ies); organizing and conducting the parent sessions for All Program Meetings; and ACT/SAT preparation for program participants. Designing, researching and implementing evaluation materials; provides academic advising and assistance; monitors the planning and implementation of college visitations and field trips; acquires, compiles and analyzes data (statistical and research) for quarterly reports; manages and follows-up on student data;

monitors weekly tutoring sessions; visits target schools for conferences with school officials and works directly with university departments, the Toledo community and Toledo Public school systems on behalf of program and participants). Evening and weekend work is required as well as travel and other duties as assigned by director.

Education/experience/licensing

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required in an academic discipline, i.e., Education, Guidance Counseling, Statistics or Sociology or other related field.
  • Two years administrative or teaching experience.
  • Succeeded in overcoming the circumstances/disadvantages like those of the target population.
  • Experience with statistical analyses.
  • Clean driving record.

Communication And Other Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and report writing.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to compare, compile, evaluate data.
  • Well developed organizational and administrative skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and work well with low-income and first-generation college bound students.
