Mercy Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced physician to join our academic faculty team. We remain open to recruiting an Internal Medicine physician and are also now open to considering an experienced Family Medicine physician for an outpatient-focused role. This position is not suited for new graduates and requires extensive clinical experience. The role offers a meaningful blend of clinical education and patient care responsibilities, with a primary focus on resident precepting and a limited private patient panel.
The position includes approximately 80% precepting and 20% direct patient care, with no call coverage required at this time.
Key Responsibilities: Clinical Education and Precepting (80%):
- Resident Supervision:
Mentor and supervise residents in the outpatient clinic, providing guidance and support during patient encounters. - Teaching and Evaluation:
Deliver high-quality teaching during patient interactions, conduct comprehensive evaluations of residents, and contribute to curriculum development. - Lectures and Mentoring:
Serve as core faculty by providing lectures, mentoring residents, and evaluating medical students. - Curriculum Development:
Actively participate in the development and enhancement of the residency curriculum.
Patient Care (20%):
- Private Patient Panel:
Manage a small outpatient private patient panel, ensuring high standards of compassionate, patient-centered care and maintaining accurate and timely medical records. - Clinical Metrics:
Ensure key performance metrics are met while delivering exceptional care.
Administrative Duties:
- Faculty and Operational Meetings:
Attend faculty and provider operational council meetings. - Faculty Development:
Participate in ongoing faculty development activities. - Recruitment and Policy:
Assist with recruitment efforts and contribute to the development of clinical policies and procedures.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Residency Committees:
Participate in residency-required committees, lectures, and recruitment efforts. - Back-Up Call:
While residents cover primary call duties, occasional backup call coverage may be required.
Qualifications:
- Education:
Board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. - Experience:
Significant outpatient clinical experience required; prior experience in academic medicine and residency training is preferred. - Skills:
Strong mentoring and teaching abilities, excellent clinical skills, and the ability to balance educational and patient care responsibilities.
Additional Information:
- On-site pharmacy and lab.
- Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) available a few days a week.
Opportunities for virtual visits and eVisits are available at the providers discretion. - Day-to-day responsibilities include a combination of resident precepting, private patient care, and participation in didactic sessions.
This is a three-year, ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency program with continued accreditation. We are currently approved to accept 12 residents per year. Mercy Health has a long history of graduate medical education, and the Internal Medicine residency program has been established since 2006. The program emphasizes comprehensive training in ambulatory and inpatient general Internal Medicine, as well as its subspecialties. Upon completion, residents are well prepared for academic careers, community-based Internal Medicine practice, or further subspecialty training.
Many faculty members are actively involved in research across a variety of medical disciplines. Major research areas include infectious disease, respiratory disease, and sleep medicine.
