Job Title:
Special Education Coordinator
Position OverviewThe Special Education Coordinator provides leadership, coordination, and support in the development, implementation, and monitoring of special education programs and services. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting high-quality instruction and equitable outcomes for all students with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and oversee the delivery of special education services in accordance with IDEA, Section 504, and state regulations.
- Support and guide special education teachers and related service providers in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Facilitate IEP and eligibility meetings; ensure timelines and documentation requirements are met.
- Collaborate with general education staff to promote inclusive practices and support students with disabilities in all settings.
- Analyze student performance data to inform instruction and service delivery.
- Serve as a liaison between schools, families, and community agencies regarding special education matters.
- Provide training and professional development to staff on special education procedures, compliance, and instructional strategies.
- Monitor caseloads, compliance, and documentation to ensure adherence to district and state requirements.
- Assist in recruiting, mentoring, and evaluating special education staff.
- Participate in district and state audits, monitoring visits, and program evaluations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education: Master’s degree in Special Education preferred.
- Certification: Valid state teaching certificate in Special Education;
Leadership or Supervisory endorsement preferred. - Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in special education teaching or coordination.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of IDEA and state special education laws
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with staff, students, and families
- Proficiency in data-driven decision-making and compliance management systems
Salary is commensurate with education and experience and follows the Stephens County School System salary schedule. Comprehensive benefits package included.
