Position: Aviation Mechanic - $5,000 HIRING BONUS!!

The purpose of the class is to inspect, repair airframes, engines, and maintain law enforcement aircraft in compliance with some procedures; uses considerable initiative and independent judgment in the performance of tasks. Work is performed under general supervision.

This position qualifies for a one‑time hiring bonus of $5000, contingent on a three-year employment commitment.

Starting Salary Is Dependent Upon Experience And Qualifications.

Position Duties

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance consistent with Agency Air Support under policies and procedures.
  • Disassembles and reassembles airframes, engines and other components.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date logbooks on aircraft repairs and maintenance.
  • Installs/reinstalls/removes and repairs avionics.
  • Attends in-service training and technical or professional classes, seminars or conferences to improve and/or maintain technical or professional skills.
  • Performs maintenance on ground support equipment as needed.
  • Prepares routine and recurring reports and special reports as required.
  • Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three years of experience in the repair and maintenance of helicopters, one year of which must have been responsible for completing major and minor repairs.
  • Experience With OH 58, 206, And UH1H Helicopters Preferred.
  • Requires a valid Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic's certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.
  • A valid class E driver's license.
  • Work is performed in a repair shop environment.
  • Work is completed in a forty-hour work week in four (4) ten (10) hour shifts, employees must be available to flex the work schedule for operational needs.
  • Physical and dexterity requirements:
    Requires medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, stretching and lifting all of the time, exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, and exceptional skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of fingers, hands, or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy. Must occasionally lift approximately 70 pounds. Must possess the strength and stamina required to work with heavy equipment and work in awkward positions, such as climb on aircraft and ladders.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a polygraph examination and criminal history review. Candidates must also pass a pre-employment drug screening. While employed, individuals will be subject to return-to-duty, post-accident, random, and reasonable suspicion drug testing.
