Part-time Maintenance; Fleet

We seek qualified applicants to fill the position of Part‑time Maintenance in the Streets & Fleet Division of the Public Works Department. The Streets & Fleet division serves a variety of functions and oversees mailboxes, snow plowing, stormwater, street maintenance, trees in parkways, and fleet services.

This position performs a variety of unskilled and semi‑skilled manual labor tasks as assigned by the Fleet Division including but, not limited to: insuring proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools before and after use; operating a variety of equipment and vehicles in order to complete tasks as part of a crew or individually; picking up and/or dropping off equipment and vehicles for service;

taking inventory, stocking and maintaining parts room; and performing general clean‑up as assigned.

Additionally, this role will perform light maintenance on Village vehicles such as replacing windshield wiper blades, repairing or changing tires, replenishing fluids/gas, and ensuring required forms/stickers are properly displayed. The position will also assist the Head Mechanic with mechanical tasks and/or preventative maintenance on vehicles as needed, along with other duties as assigned.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Must have working knowledge of the use and care of vehicles, materials and supplies used in Public Works, general cleaning supplies, first aid and applicable safety precautions. Availability to work during the standard business day with some evening/weekend hours, and possession of a valid Driver’s license is required. Possession of, or the ability to obtain a valid CDL Class B driver’s license with airbrake endorsement within six (6) months of employment is preferred.

The ideal candidate is a self‑starter who can work independently with minimum supervision, has experience working with small hand tools and equipment in a proper and safe manner, and the willingness to gain detailed knowledge of the Village Vehicle Fleet and techniques relative to the maintenance and operation of said vehicles. This individual will also be able to follow written/oral instruction and perform all duties in conformance with all safety and security standards.

This is a collectively bargained position under IUOE Local 150.

A consistent schedule is required, generally 3 days per week. Some flexibility is available. General work days/hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Must indicate availability at time of application.
